Baton Twirling

Taxonomy Code: PL-7000.0850

Programs that provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn, become competitive in and enjoy baton twirling, a sport in which the individual, while marching, performs a variety of maneuvers in which one, two or three batons (centrally balanced metal shafts with rubber ends) are twirled, tossed spinning into the air, and caught again. The programs may offer camps, clinics and workshops to help majorettes learn and practice the techniques and twirls associated with the sport; may provide opportunities for participants to join teams which march in parades or give twirling performances; and/or may sponsor or make arrangements for participation in individual and team baton twirling competitions. Baton twirling is a Junior Olympics sport.
