          Description

          Informs students of financial aid opportunities, helps them apply for financial aid through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and provides follow-up information about award letters, student loans and college finances.

          Required Documents

          (1) Social security numbers for the parents and student (students with SSNs whose parents are non-citizens can still apply) (2) Birthdates for the parents and student (3) Student’s alien registration/permanent resident card number (if the student is not a U.S. citizen) (4) Income statements (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) or information to help estimate earnings (5) Federal income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) for the parents and student (if the parents and/or student are tax filers) (6) If you have not completed your tax return by the time you complete your FAFSA, you may submit the FAFSA using estimates based on your most recently-filed return. You must then use the “Make Corrections” link on the FAFSA website after completing your taxes to enter the updated information. (7) If your income changed significantly from the last time you filed taxes and you have not filed your current tax return yet, make your best estimate of your adjusted gross income for the year. (8) Information on any untaxed income (i.e. child support, payments to tax-deferred plans, workers’ compensation, disability, etc.) (9) Checking and savings account balances for the parents and student (10) Other asset information including net worth of stocks, bonds, CDs, secondary homes or rental/investment properties, and other investments (11) Other investments include: trust funds, UGMA and UTMA accounts, money market funds, mutual funds, stock options, other securities, commodities, 529 college savings plans, the refund value of 529 prepaid tuition plans, Cordell savings accounts, etc. (12) A list of colleges the student is applying to – up to 10 can be listed on the FAFSA at one time (more can be added after the initial application is processed)
