Detoxification methods vary but often entail stabilization via prescription medication such as methadone, buprenorphine (Subutex), buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) or naltrexone administered by medical professionals. Specialized opioid detoxification programs can be either inpatient or outpatient.
