Institutions that acquire, preserve, research and exhibit permanent and/or traveling collections of artifacts which foster an understanding of the material and intellectual culture, traditions and experiences of people from a diversity of cultures. Collections may include archival records, personal diaries, photographs, profiles of notable personages, tools, implements, furnishings, costumes, fine and folk art, musical instruments and other objects and memorabilia that help to interpret and understand the family, religious and political life of these groups and the contributions they made to the communities and times in which they lived.
