As outlined in the statement from the Office of the Governor of the State of Illinois, effective March 21st 2020, all licensed and license-exempt child care centers and homes have been subject to mandetory closures until further notice, due to the developing COVID-19 outbreak.

Only eligible Emergency Child Care Centers caring for children of essential/critical emergency workers will be legally allowed to operate during the current State of Emergency in Illinois. Until further notice, both licensed and license-exempt child care homes can care for up to 6 children of essential workers without any applications or registrations needed, so long as providers follow the appropriate health practices and are not in a higher risk group for COVID-19, such as those over 60 years of age or have a pre-existing health condition.  The governor also amended the "Stay at Home" Executive Order to allow select license-exempt chid care centers to provide these child care services without the need to apply for an Emergency Child Care License during the COVID-19 State of Emergency.
