The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID deadline to October 1, 2021.  Airports, military bases and secure federal facilities will continue to accept current Illinois driver's licenses and ID cards.

Beginning October 1, 2021, Illinois residents must present a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, or another acceptable form of identification, to travel by plane within the United States.  Starting this spring, the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State will begin giving residents the choice to either obtain a REAL ID card or to keep a standard card.  Except for mobile units and express facilities, all Driver Services facilities in Illinois will be issuing REAL IDs.
