The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced on 3/12/21 that the 3rd round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP) would be starting the week of 3/15/21. As of 4/1/21, more than 130 million payments have been made across the country as part of the American Rescue Plan.

This 3rd Economic Impact Payment is different from the first 2 rounds in that it will not be restricted to children under 17 years of age, as families will be getting a payment for all qualifying dependents claimed on their tax return. Dependents for this round include older relatives like adults with disabilities, parents and grandparents.

Those who don't have a permanent address or a bank account, as well as those who aren't required to file a tax return, may still qualify for the EIP and other tax benefits in 2021.

No action is needed by most taxpayers, the payments will be issued automatically either by mail or by direct deposit.  Those who want to check the status of their EIP or want to make sure that their payment is issued have been reminded to use the Get My Payment online tool, which is available in 7 languages including Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, and Haitian Creole.

The IRS has also warned those expecting these payments to remain vigilant as scammers are actively trying to steal their money.
