The Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act is a new law that expands Veterans Affairs (VA) health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. It adds to the list of health conditions that are assumed, or “presumed”, to be caused by exposure to these substances – which means that VA can provide more care and more benefits to more veterans and their survivors than ever before. There is no deadline to apply for PACT Act-related benefits, but most veterans and survivors who submit an intent to file by Aug. 9, 2023, if granted, will have their benefits backdated to August 10, 2022, the day that President Biden signed the PACT Act into law.
