Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Stamps) helps low income people and families buy the food they need for good health. Benefits are provided on the Illinois Link Card - an electronic card that is accepted at most grocery stores.

    Eligibility

    (1) Resident of the state of Illinois, a U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income (2) Must be one of the following: a. Pregnant, or b. Be responsible for a child 18 years of age or younger, or c. Blind, or d. Have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or e.       Eligibility

      (1) Must have Medicare Hospital Insurance (Part A) - if you’re not sure whether you have it, look on your Medicare card or call Social Security, at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY:1-800-325-0778) to find out. The call is free; (2) Income is below certain limits; (3) Financial resources, (not counting your home) cannot exceed $7,280 for yourself or $10,930 if you have one or more dependents living with you

        Description

        Provides a screening tool and online application for State of Illinois administered benefits programs. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides temporary financial assistance for pregnant women and families with one or more dependent children. TANF provides financial assistance to help pay for food, shelter, utilities, and expenses other than medical.

        Documentation may include, but not limited to: (1) Children's birth certificates (to show they are related to you); (2) Social Security cards for everyone; (3) Paycheck stubs and proof of other income

        Eligibility

        (1) Be pregnant or have a child under age 19 who lives with them. A child who is 18 must be a full-time high school student. A pregnant woman (and her husband, if he lives with her) may qualify for help, even if they don't have any other children; (2) Resident of Illinois - can be homeless and still qualify; (3) Be a U.S. citizen or meet certain immigration requirements; (4) Develop a plan for becoming self-sufficient and follow it
